Music7. Elizabeth Harwood Elizabeth Harwood was the daughter of a Scarborough-born local government officer and became a distinguished soprano soloist. Although born in Northamptonshire she spent the whole of her childhood in Embsay, near Skipton and attended Skipton Girls' High School. She later went to London after winning the Kathleen Ferrier Memorial Scholarship and encouraged by Sir Malcolm Sargent embarked on a highly successful career on the concert platform.
8. Lesley Garratt More recently Lesley Garratt, the Doncaster diva, has pursued a highly successful concert and recording career.
